1.  EVENT OVERVIEW

Where:              Scenic Rim, South East Queensland

When:               Fri 12 and Sat 13, October 2018 (Briefing very early on the morning of Fri 12 October)

Open to:            Individuals and Teams (teams of 4 to 6)

Cost:                   $625 per Individual Unsponsored Rider (payable by riders on receipt of invoice after registration)

Why:                

To raise funds for 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation, and more particularly to build the Foundation’s “Camp Courage” Retreat on a magnificent 32 acre tract of land in the Scenic Rim already acquired by the Foundation at no cost to it.

We meet at “Thunderbird Park / Cedar Creek Lodges,” Tamborine, at 5.45am on the morning of Friday 12 October for breakfast and a briefing.  The ride concludes back there on Saturday (13th) afternoon.

“Pedals ‘n Medals” is the 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation’s current largest fundraiser, with all funds raised going specifically to the construction of “Camp Courage”, a rural Retreat at which military and first responder personnel, past and present, primarily with PTSD and other related mental health issues, will experience world’s best practice live-in rehabilitation programs.

This is our second Ride after a fantastic and successful first effort in 2017.

The Rider Registration Fee covers the following:

  • Rider Kit; 1 Jersey and 1 Bib and Brace (all riders to wear the same),
  • 1 x night’s shared accommodation on the Friday evening,
  • All meals on and off road,
  • Electrolytes, health bars, fruit and water for on and off road
  • Ride management provided by Entoure who bring a professional and serious approach to rider safety.

The fee doesn’t cover transport to and from the event.

Any Unsponsored Rider who introduces an extra new Rider to their 2017 Team, receives a 10% discount or refund on their 2018 Registration Fee.

Any sponsored Rider who introduces an extra new Rider to their 2017 Team, receives a Coles / Myer Voucher to the value of $62.50.

A Rider in a Sponsored Team pays no Rider Registration Fee.

 


 

2.  4 AUSSIE HEROES FOUNDATION LIMITED  

The 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation’s purpose is to provide the wherewithal to substantially contribute to the alleviation and mitigation of the injuries, illnesses and anxieties being suffered by military and first responder personnel, past and present, and in so doing, provide to them a valuable pathway to a dramatically enhanced quality of life.

This will be achieved primarily by way of world-best-practise rehabilitation programs of varying lengths, being delivered in a rural environment which is relaxed and calming, and where rehabilitation and guidance will have maximum long-term benefits.

The short term vision of the 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation is to establish a rural Retreat called “Camp Courage” on a beautiful 32 acre rural site in the Scenic Rim, which is in the process of being gifted to the Foundation.

In addition to rehabilitation, Camp Guests will benefit from the most meaningful, enjoyable, affordable, and safe experience possible.  A better quality of life and improved future prospects are outcomes earnestly sought for them.

The 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation’s rehabilitation model is both unique (in Australia) and innovative.

3.  FUNDRAISING  

This is a fundraising bike ride, and as such riders are required to seek donations for the 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation, a not-for-profit entity with charitable and tax deductible status.  Donation’s over $2.00 are tax deductible.

Fundraising will again be through “GoFundraise”.  Please register to fundraise at: http://pedalsnmedals2018fundraisingbikeride.gofundraise.com.au/ as soon as you Register to ride.

The nominal target is $1,500 for each rider.

Any Rider who fundraises over $2,500 will receive a 20% discount on their 2019 Registration Fee.

Any Rider who raises over $3,500 will additionally receive their choice of either two good tickets to the 2018 State of Origin rugby league game in Brisbane or a complimentary Registration of a Team of 4 to a Foundation “The Shambolic Golfaholic” 2019 Golf Day.

All funds raised will go towards the construction of comfortable, purpose built, permanent Retreat facilities to be known as “Camp Courage”, at which world’s best practice rehabilitation type programs for military and first responder personnel, past and present, who now suffer mental health issues, mainly PTSD, as a result of their service to our Nation and our Communities, will then be delivered.

 


4.  MANAGEMENT OF EVENT

The 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation’s “Pedals ‘n Medals” ride is a fully supported ride, managed and conducted by Entoure; a professional cycle event management business specialising in on road events across the charitable sector. To find out more about entoure, visit their website – www.entoure.com.au

The marketing, catering, accommodation, and administrative management of the Ride is the responsibility of the 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation.

The fundraising administration is again in the hands of the very professional, well organised and highly regarded GoFundraise.

 


5.  ROUTES

The event is a peloton supported ride and as such is targeted at semi experienced to experienced cyclists with previous peloton riding experience.

In the event that our numbers meet target, there will be two pelotons, with one riding slightly less kms per day.

6.  ACCOMMODATION

Friday nights’ accommodation will be in Boonah, mainly at the Boonah Motel, but with the overflow relatively close by.

Those riders who are travelling from outside the Brisbane area or the Scenic Rim, will be accommodated (twin share) at Cedar Creek Lodges, Tamborine, on the Thursday evening.

 


 7.  REQUIREMENTS AND OBLIGATIONS

In registering for this event, all participants are committing to the following:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 65.
  • Be fit and healthy
  • Be experienced in public road riding and understand safe peloton riding enough to participate in this event, or be prepared to learn, (you can be assisted in this regard);
  • Have access to a suitable bicycle in good working condition, capable of such a Ride;
  • Be able to ride at the baseline fitness level of 24 kms per hour,
  • Agree in writing to the Terms and Conditions of the Event, and
  • Be prepared to raise funds for the 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation as per Para 4.

It is the responsibility of all potential participating riders to advise us of any health or skill issues impacting their ability to ride in this event safely.

8.  KIT

The Kit will again be supplied by Cannibal and similar in design to last years’.  (Maybe a different colour, maybe not).

The size required needs to be stated on your Registration Form which has a Size Chart attached.  (Men’s Chart)  (Ladies’ Chart)

We are hoping to be able to get kits to most Riders a few days before commencement of the Ride, however please get your sizes right as there will be no chance for replacements.

 


9.  WHAT TO BRING

  • Road bicycle in good working condition
  • Australian approved bike helmet
  • Kit (if delivered)
  • Wet weather gear
  • Clothes & Toiletries
  • Money for incidentals
  • Your sense of humour

 


10.  INSURANCE

All riders must be a member of Cycling Australia to compete in the event.  As part of rider registration, all riders will be provided with short term membership including full comprehensive insurance cover through Cycling Australia. This will provide riders with up to 3 months full comprehensive insurance commencing 1 August (or from when you Register) and ending Oct 31 ensuring all participants in the 4 Aussie Heroes Ride are covered as they prepare for the event as well as during the event.
